The owners of Rakiura Shipping Limited have operated between Bluff and Stewart Island since August 1986 when the Government Vessel Wairua ceased operation.

The company has specialist experience in servicing marine farms at Big Glory Bay and has the required certification to carry fish and shellfish from the marine farms in Big Glory Bay to Bluff. The Company has taken an active interest in supporting the community and has participated in a number of community projects, for example:-
